A Curious Foundation

Lately, I find myself sitting with the magnificent state of curiosity. Over the last six months, I have had the tremendous pleasure of meeting and sharing conversations with extraordinary, kind, and above all, curious people. The basic framework seems to be expansiveness, possibility, and openness to the world, and a genuine engagement with the conditions that effectively allow experiences to work themselves out. I repeatedly come back to the question and reflection of my own curiosity, and a wish to foster, support, and cultivate this foundation. From time to time, I even feel a worry that this curiosity will vanish, and that I will stumble upon my last question. I don’t want to reach the conclusion, the last question, though I certainly will admit, an “answer” to the great mystery from time to time might not be such a bad thing. Nonetheless, I hope to encourage the expansion of the questions, allowing a significant multiplication of ponderings, about life “out there” and life “within”, as if those were separate and distinct experiences anyway.

As I move into another year, another decade, and mull over the uncertainty, I am also trying to give increasing attention to what shines forth from my heart, carefully noticing where my heart is pulling me. In parallel, wondering if it is possible to allow the mind to slow down, catching the incessant and circular rumination, and to rest “in the heart.” To be an observer of the heart’s longing. The uncertainty scares me, and with humor, I know that nearly, if not, all things are uncertain. For many years, I figured if I could learn the totality of secrets, the deepest wisdom, I would be prepared and ready to set forth and embark across this ocean of living. Yet, the world is constantly shifting and changing, as if there were such a static state to be ready for. Conceptually, this is understood, now it is a matter of a genuine embodiment of the principle.

As experience demands my attention, and I am pulled here and there in attendance, I wonder about slowing down, at least internally, to participate in the subtlety of “the moment” in a fully engaged manner. Fully engaged, similar to a state achieved up in the high mountains or on the Jiu Jitsu mat. Can the mere and mundane moments be transformed into deep states of flow? For me, I think a big part of the effort is slowing down, observing all the subtle details with intrigue and interest. The mountains provoke this easily, as much is demanded from me simultaneously, each step requiring a commitment, not to mention the awe of wilderness around and within.

Whether I am in the mountains, at home, working, or playing, or, god forbid, relaxing, the practice is ongoing, if I so choose. The practice of fully showing up, with curiosity to the unfolding experience and reality, and even more so, in an open and embracing way, quietly excited for the simplicity of the waking moment. While many things around me feel as though they are rapidly accelerating and scattering about tugging along a scattered mind, I wonder if I can peacefully counteract these forces by finding, feeling, and settling upon the ground beneath me. A truly settling and grounding effect, slowing down enough to see what is before me, and to sense where I am.

In Yoga asana, we reduce to breath and movement; of course, there are many variations and approaches, so forgive me for generalizing, as the practice extends far and wide. The reduction to breath and movement oddly has the ability to create and produce space and silence. In the space and silence, we begin to see clearly, as the mind slows way down, but for a moment. We do this over and over again, the repeated effect starts to expand in duration, and silence and spaciousness consume us. Now, we are getting somewhere, but remember, there is nowhere to get to, as we are already there. The paradox of practice.

This is one significant realization, but for some reason the sustained embodiment remains far off and out of reach. Why?

Every day I have to remind myself of the intention, that is, to live intentionally and with presence. Every day, I make space for practice, hoping that slowly I can come back home to myself, and even more so, over time, this state sticks around for longer periods of time. Fortunately, the practices are joyful, and simple joy has a compounding effect. I am realizing, better late than never, that it is in the simplification of my life, that joy grows bountifully. Thus, I will continue to strip away, reminding myself of the first and foundational principles, and leading a life of questions, curiosity, awe, and wonder.

With much gratitude,

Tyler

Explorations of the Heart

I begin with awe and wonder, looking within only to find the vast emptiness and infinite expanses. So, where does the heart begin, and where does it end, as though there are any boundaries to speak of? Where does the heart rest in the source of love, potential, and hope? I sit in this expansive silence with no where to go, nothing to do, and no one to be. Just loving and enjoying silence.

The fear of sitting with the self for all that is unknown, yet to be discovered and revealed. At the very least, give it a chance, an extended chance, to let this awareness and wisdom grow. A great old pine tree takes time to become it’s full expression. The full expression and potential of a human being, blossoming and flourishing, how much time does it take?

I rest in the fundamental, the first principle, where the ground begins and ends, and where there is no knowing. Here, I know nothing; It is a pure state of being, a glimpse of clarity, a question answered for a moment, and back into the raging current I fall. Tossed around, attention drifting, and observant of an obscured awareness.

If the starting framework could be love, imagine. Imagine we could start with love, and operate with and from love, always reminding ourselves of this condition and possibility. Always pouring forth, or at least trying. Remember the question, who am I? This, we come back to over and over again. All is stripped away, the pieces, the layers, attempting to see what remains. But even the attempting, the efforting, must go, and only space remains.

Resting in this space with sustained focus, attention, and awareness, the subtle begins to show itself. There is discernment, recognition, and an emergent intuition in the subtlety. The lessons and wisdom slowly emerge; the most beautiful things in life take time, as much time as they need and wish to take. Somehow we can learn to slow down with patience, ease, and joy, letting all unfold and become. Letting all grow, cycle around, fall away, and begin again.

How do we hold the uncertainty and the unknown? Making sense of the insensible, the ungraspable, and unspeakable underpinnings of our experience here. When all has fallen away, any semblance of the familiar and the comfortable, and that which can be understood, there is still a way forward; that is, until we don’t even know the way forward, forward, up, down, is mere relativity at this point. Oddly, this is welcome too. It is okay. We allow it all to be, as a mere and curious part of our experience, as lessons shaping or dissolving ourselves. All falls away, the incredible and durable sense of self, and the ever-moving foundation of that which I am. A sense of meaning, a sense of forgiveness, and a sense of love; perhaps, we call this home.

Around We Go.

What does it mean, to be here now?

To, really, be here, now. To fully embrace, accept, understand, and love the present moment, for the all the uncertainty, wonder, and confusion that might exist simultaneously. As the thoughts circulate, habitually, doing their rounds as they always do, familiar, yet evasive and elusive.

The pattern always repeats itself, until the pattern is broken and disrupted. And it requires that we step far enough back to see and acknowledge the pattern to begin with. To see ourselves out of and above what we might call the ego, our identity, what we hold onto fiercely.

And what happens when we let go of such an identity, that is, everything we think we are, our name, our work, our relationships? When all is stripped away what remains in place, anything at all? Nothingness? Is it even possible to get a glimpse of “the other side,” as though there were such a thing as “here” and “there.”

To be here, now. This is what we must come back to, over and over again throughout our beautiful and complex lives. No agenda, no narrative, no should’s, would’s, could’s. Simply, this existence, this awareness, this presence. And we rest in this, until we forget.

It might be days, months, years until we realize that we have forgotten. Forgotten what? Our self, that which we are. Yet, what is so close is ungraspable. In an attempt to find even the most basic words to touch the experience, the concept, the notion, the idea, the expression, it is all out of reach. Why?

Why can’t we touch on the simplest and most basic experience? I only remark simple and basic, as that which we are, seems like it would be known instantly upon sustained reflection and awareness. Yet, when I look inward, I can’t find anything. Maybe just some remnant thoughts drifting around, a feeling and urge here and there, perhaps the body aches some, the belly rumbles with hunger. Sure, I see these things.

But, is that all? These things have their place, of course, but what else, what more is there? All that I am, the full container and experience, that is what I want to give my undying attention to. Perhaps the notion, be here now, goes hand in hand with the question, who am I.

It seems we have some more work to do, but I take it as a worthwhile path to travel down, and together.

Where Curiosity Takes Us

I tend to believe that anything is possible. While it seems in some ways the world is deeply fragile, that we, human beings are vulnerable to much in the ways of mishaps, there is simultaneously a great endurance that exists. It is this endurance and strength of our being that fills me with wonder, the realm of possibility with the human imagination. I wish to go deeper into the space of our what we, humans are capable of, the mastery of craft across all arts and industries. This is the magic, where the quality and beauty exist.

What we choose to give our attention to, and, hopefully even more so if we are lucky enough, our love and commitment to, grows profoundly. Through the passion and dedication, a transformation occurs and what we might call greatness emerges. Greatness is beautiful and highly unique across all spaces, and measures up to whatever we think is important. Our priorities can and will differ, and it is this variety that allows for many expressions and wonders.

I repeatedly come back to what we show up to day after day, and the imperceptible subtlety of change over a long period of time. There is little in the way of glamor, moment by moment, day after day, but we still arrive, with the same enduring commitment to our love, faith, and dream, to make something wonderful, and something built to last.

There is an awe and wonder to the aspects of the human experiences and dimensions, our ability to dream up the impossibility, and adventure forth into the unknown. I don’t know that we are all meant to walk in this manner, but if we feel compelled at all, we must. And what of the consequences? This, I don’t have a clear answer, and I imagine any such definition will evolve over a lifetime with consideration to new variables and conditions.

The mountains and wilderness provide us with a space where all is stripped away but the fundamentals, of who we are, why we are, and even still, it, it being the depths of ourselves, remains a mystery. A part of me knows I just need to let go, to stop trying so hard to make sense of it. We catch a glimpse of the summit, when the clouds break for but a moment, and feel the pull to talk towards and into the void. We find a strange sort of comfort in what is unknown, a creative and wild challenge before us, pulling it apart and going within, deeper and deeper.

The path goes on.

What is the starting point when we merely take one step after another, put one foot in front of the other? It goes on.

Anywhere we may wish to go, anywhere we may wish to be. We make strides, one simple step at a time. And, where to, where might we end up? What is the finale, if there is, in fact, one?

Why do we ask these questions? When all is silent around us, and we have finally carved ourselves a quiet and focused state. What is it we are looking at, looking for? The questions themselves, they spiral, and sometimes uncontrollably. And we find some way to reign them in, and return to our baseline. Something we might call normal.

Curiosity, wonder, and awe which grows and picks up speed as we move along. These states feed themselves and transform over time into something we do not yet know, have no familiarity of, and what to do with. There is an openness that allows these moments to unfold and for the creativity to emerge, a wild sense of being that is directed towards action.

We come back to the self, as though the self is one clear expression. No, the self in entirely fluid, morphing as world influences and impacts us. We can and will observe this unfolding experience, believing we make it all happen. Where does the agency reside, the sense of self, the identity that has formed over a lifetime as we take each step?

As we grow outward, we return inward, exploring the vastness, while making our way home. And to truly feel and be at home with ourselves, that is, to know ourselves, an ever-changing, evolving, and transforming being.

We can continue to dig into the remarkable sense of being, what we hold within, a knowledge and wisdom. With this wisdom, we can walk and discern, movement, creativity, and action with one another and the world. A hope and intention of bringing simplicity and beauty to each and every moment, a kindness, humility, and compassion.

The wonder of not knowing, the curiosity of wishing to know, learn, and grow. What can we become, a potential that remains quietly longing and dreaming? What do we wish to become, and why? What draws us to these places? Each step we take, why?

Learning to be present in each moment, with each and every step. Feeling the step as it is taken, watching the world grow, unfold, and change. No resistance, friction, simply witnessing, observing, and reflecting. Simplicity, always wishing to return to simplicity, letting all things find their place, as they will. Trusting that all things will find their way home, and, us too. We are making our way home, with ourselves, each other, and a beautiful world.

It all exists in this moment, and in this world, the pain and love exist side by side.

And how can we hold the forces that seem opposite to one another? An answer that remains elusive, as in the same breath, some come into this world and some leave. We hold and grapple with it all, without direct clarity, but always wondering, somewhere quietly in the back of our minds, but we do know.

We know. When the clouds clear, there is a knowing, a gentle ease and peace. We make room for this and let it occupy its space. It will grow and grow, as the sun lights up and warms the earth. The very same heart feels a warmth, coming home and back to ourselves. And it is from this place we move and love.

Thank you.

Perspective & Gratitude

One of the most incredible and beautiful aspects of our world is the connection and conversations we share amongst one another to gain new perspectives and cultivate wisdom. By sharing dialogue, it quickly becomes clear how little we know, and how many unique ways of seeing and experiencing the world there are.

My hope and intention in this life is to connect and to expand this little sense of understanding I have. We learn to listen, empathize, and see another for their presence, all the things that bring them peace and joy. That’s it, right? Seeking something like peace and joy, to feel a little bit better, genuine relief and wellbeing.

And how do we find this, exactly? As we walk along this beautiful and uncertain path, how do we find the mountain to climb, and how do we know when we have arrived at any “top”, as if there is truly ever a summit?

And what do we do then, when we’ve made it to wherever we think we ought to be going? A question not meant to stir dread, doubt, and uncertainty, but rather, and hopefully, a greater sense of reflection, observation, and curious depth. In relationship and connection, amongst authentic and sincere conversations and explorations, we can expand what we think we know, and more often, all that we do not know, our ignorance and troubles of being human.

And, to be human, an exceptional feat, as we fumble along with all that is set before us. A great landscape of experimentation, wonder, awe, excitement, love, joy, and peace. It readily changes, fluctuates, evolves, matures, and we, whoever we may be, move through this with great admiration and presence.

And as we expand outward into a rich, complex, and textured world, we return inward and home. Hopefully, this wisdom brings us closer to ourselves, becoming capable of experiencing the beauty around us that is simultaneously paired the tragic pain and suffering. Let it sit side by side, as it will, as we can truly see these things as they are. We clear up our vision and we look directly towards what is here and now.

This is a process of coming back to ourselves, a practice of returning, over and over again, to the light that we are. And this light grows stronger, the more we are reminded. It gains a momentum, as we repeatedly see it through our days and experiences. We remind ourselves that we can choose, and this choice contains all the power. We have to choose.

And with that, we can carry this through every waking moment, shared amongst one another to elevate and strengthen the courage within. The heart will grow stronger and brighter.

Thank you, everyone.

Without judgement, simply noticing what is there. What arises and falls, what comes ups and goes, in the ever-passing experience. Who is the one having this experience? Who am I, that notices all? The mind, body, heart, and spirit. Perhaps, all one and the same. There is such power contained in all that we are, yet where do we even begin? How do we cultivate that which we already are? What are we cultivating to become?

I wonder how much ‘participation’ we can really have; how much we can shape and influence our experience. It certainly feels like we can play some part, but it’s hard to say. To be conscious, alive, in this experience called life, navigating the complexities, relationships, work, how we are in every moment. It’s incredible, a miracle I would say, undoubtedly.

More than anything, I wonder how we can be “fully alive" in this lifetime, what it takes to experience this moment in its entirety. With our awareness and cultivated, yet free-expansive, attention, we can embody the unfolding moment, with deep wisdom, and intuition guiding our steps. How much action is required daily, and what does it mean to act, at all?

I don’t think it has to be an endless series of ‘doing’ per say, filling our time with this ‘busy’ work. There’s often this contrast of doing and being, both are intriguing. What does it mean ‘to be’ and how much do we have ‘to do?’ Simultaneously, I want to fill all my time with passions, but then there is no more time remaining. The days simply blend and race by. I don’t know if that is a bad thing, but I do wonder where the time goes. Moreso, I wonder if I have regrets. Will I wonder if I missed moments, considering the things I did not do, or made less of a priority?

Why are my priorities arranged in such a way? Where do they come from, and what prompts their change? Some of it comes from within, and much, from society and those around me. Our engagements with the world are relational, the external and internal merge together, and create some form or expression. This expression serves, in a way, as our identity, that which we think we are? I witness how strongly I hold onto my identity, protecting this construction with great will.

I am afraid to lose it, to lose this sense of who I am, yet, I believe, there is a freedom on the other side. Once I get past the noise, the thoughts, the emotions, the fears, I trust there is a simple place, perhaps a closer connection to the one, or God, or whatever I may call it. I feel the religions grasp at something profound. With a commitment to any path, any teacher, any process, we can dig our way to the center, to our center of being. The process of discovery can be instantaneous or gradual but there is a revealing with discipline and commitment. The light, authentic and sincere, shines through. This light has always been there, but either we couldn’t see it or chose not to see it. It shines brighter and brighter, until we return home.

Thank you. Have a beautiful day,

Tyler

Sensations, emotions, and thoughts appear and disappear. I merely observe the passing clouds, grateful to see anything at all.

I am curious what it means to come back to ourselves, our true selves. How to find our center and balance, the stillness within? It is a continuous practice. Every moment is practice.

The moments that encourage a smile, and the moments that cut through with pain. We can observe and relate to any moment in a variety of ways. We have the choice to notice our perspectives and attitudes, to take or not take “action.”

Feeling the need to always be “doing something,” is it possible to let go and relax, to be gentle with ourselves? We can invite spaciousness and welcome what is right here.

There is great power in our breath, when we breathe deep into the base of our spines. Full and deep breaths, it can calm our systems down, a reset or boost. We can harness simple powers within ourselves, to feel more alive, or rather, fully alive as we are.

I wish to welcome the silence, to help cultivate my attention. While a part of me may get tossed around from the currents of the unfolding experience, I also see the center that is balanced and maintained throughout. In all moments, we can return to this place, this center, that is simultaneously deeply grounded and reaching out.

We come back to the breath again and again, lose ourselves and remember. The practice is to remember, to come home to ourselves, more frequently. Thus, we develop tools, such as labels, to come back. We find the center, once more, and relax. We can live a life of ease and peace, We can notice the noise and the currents, but we can return to the simplicity of our being. Simple, and miraculous.

What can we do to find the depths? How can we open to more love and compassion within ourselves, for ourselves, and the world? How can we create more spaciousness, rather than closing off and down? What does it mean to be, and to be alive, here, and now? One lifetime, and it all goes so quickly.

I am grateful for you being here, and for you being you.

Many blessings,

Tyler

Seeing the anxiety that arises, I try not to identify with it. I simply wish to let it come up, let it move through, and let it go. The feelings resurface, and I reiterate the process.

The process is continual, yet I remember that I exist only in the present moment. Moments woven together create a beautiful story. Somewhere along this thread, embracing what is. Resistance appears, and I struggle my way through it. Can I let the struggle go, create space, and welcome what is? Or I don’t "need" to do anything. Much of the challenge is in the fighting of what I think something ought to be. What if I came to love this moment, myself, as I am? This is profound work.

I am learning to feel into this experience, to lean into what is occurring within. Shining my awareness on the somatic realm, that is, the feelings that live within. It is neither good nor bad, from the observer's perspective, from my perspective. The world simply unfolds, and I notice. I notice each moment, as a whole and passing moment.

And what am I, this self, this being? Who is the one that observes, who gives attention to this experience? I am that which is aware. In other words, I am aware of my awareness. Can I become more aware of, more present to life?

I notice how my life takes many forms, uniquely shaping itself daily. I must fine-tune, adjust, and adapt to what is presently unfolding. When there is significant difficulty, I must notice and let it move through. Embracing what is uncomfortable for I know there is another side. Comfort is ever changing. Plus, we have the power to cultivate peace and ease within, to find relief.

I notice the space that comes with peace and ease. It is vast, open, and expansive. What happens when I bring my awareness to the open space, and rest here? Can I find the little pockets of space inside of myself, and let them grow? What exactly am I observing when connected to this space? This inquiry and exploration provoke my curiosity.

I will pay attention to what is uncomfortable, to what causes friction, as I know it is in these places that encourage creativity, inspiration, and growth. I will look closer, and still closer, with an investigative and curious spirit, for it is merely a signal on this path I am traveling down. I seek merely to foster a loving relationship to the present moment, curiously and courageously walking on, trusting that this moment is perfection. It is a miracle to exist at all.

Life can present us with significant challenges and overcast a darkness that leaves us blind, afraid, and hurting. There exists an insurmountable pain, fear, and suffering we all wish to turn away from, but our hearts know it is there. I wish to understand, find a way to hold this, while also the incredible beauty. The life around us, trees, flowers, birds, and humans, the vast ocean, forests, and towering mountains. I must find a way to gently hold it all, just as it is. It is not easy, but I know we can move with this unfolding process, and open our hearts, eventually, gradually, and with practice. Humans are remarkable, with an awe-inspiring ability to carry compassion and empathy for life. I am learning and working to open my heart, with faith in this process, to love and light. With this trust, strength, personal power, and freedom can be created. Thank you for being here, for being you, for exploring the depths of your own being and potential.

Tyler

Without changing anything, I want to understand what these states are when I notice them, while just letting them be. The feelings of the unknown, uncertainty, confusion, and chaos.

With the world fading away due to my hearing and vision loss, everyday, in certain respects, grows darker. Simple things are vanishing before my eyes. I trip over things down low and run into objects and people I do not see. Nobody understands what I am living with. It is interesting to see the anger and frustration in others when I crash into them. Of course, they should be confused. As it is often a passing moment, I do not have the time to explain the 'why.' All they see is a young kid, who is perhaps not paying attention, oblivious, or doesn't care.

I do care, more than one might imagine. I am trying, we all are! It's crazy to observe parts of the world quickly fading. I try to grab ahold of something, but when it comes to degenerative conditions, they have a mind and plan of their own. It feels the best course of action is to surrender and accept what is, as fighting doesn't do much. Fighting merely makes me more upset with the world and a hatred towards myself for my limitations and inabilities.

I move about slowly as I try to take each step intentionally, while also making sure that I do not run into anything or anyone. Navigating the city is an ordeal, yet I still make every effort to continue engaging. One part of me would like to turn away and give up. I cannot do that. I mean, I can, but I will not do that, as I want to participate. I have tried to opt out and have gone down and explored a dark path.

The darkness certainly remains within, but I am trying to keep my head high and hold onto light, love, optimism, and hope. Really, just a settling, accepting, and embracing of who I am and the present moment. And when exploring this self, I mean, who am I, really, deep down beyond the superficial, beyond the mind, the body, the thoughts? I suppose one clear gift of this condition, for which I hold tremendous gratitude, is that it has encouraged me to ask big questions about the nature of being, inspiring expansive curiosity for a fascinating world outside and within.

I will go deeper and deeper into the self, exploring being, creativity, passion, and space. I will learn how to open my heart, and let this experience simply flow through me. Certain aspects of this experience grow ever more challenging, making me want to scream, "stop." But, I cannot force anything. In fact, I think gentleness and compassion for myself and the world is the only way.

I am grateful for you taking a moment here today, and for receiving these words. Life is a fascinating and unfolding experience, and it blesses us with the incredible opportunity to learn and connect. Learning, teaching, and sharing is the greatest gift, and even in these darker moments, I feel endlessly thankful for this possibility. It is incredible to have the ability to go inside ourselves, and ponder the nature of our being, and really, feel into it. Feel into who we are from the heart. A little sparkle of light will show itself.

Much love,

Tyler

I want to find a deeper understanding of my body and its internal mechanics. I am learning how to feel and sense what is moving through me. In every moment, there is an associated feeling. I am cultivating this awareness.

I wonder why it is so challenging to understand the body's beautiful language. It feels as though I repeatedly forget and must remind myself of the felt sensation In every moment, there is a feeling. How can I remember this and be fully aware of this continuous experience? Through this experience, we can go deeper into ourselves, which cultivates authenticity and simplicity.

The question, who am I?, is an inquiry I deeply appreciate. Navigating our inner world is a worthwhile pursuit. However, I am starting to think, paradoxically, that in pursuing less, we see more, more of what is true. It is like we begin to live life in flow, and with this flow, we feel at ease.

With all that is occurring and unfolding, with the perceivable busyness of our lives, it is a great blessing to feel peace in our hearts. At this point, I want to find ways to create space within, and let peace and joy radiate throughout. Certainly not an easy task.

As I go deeper into my life, I am finding more ways to open my heart and let love in. When once there thick and sharp walls, I can feel the beginnings of letting go and accepting, and with that, I can see, feel, and experience beauty. It is a reinforcing process, that is, when our hearts can see and feel beauty, our attention can turn to it more frequently, becoming a habit.

In this life, and at this moment, I want to open my heart to love and to beauty, for this seems like the only way forward. Doing so requires trust and faith in the human experience.

With curiosity, I will walk forward with courage, letting the light of this world be my guiding force, encouraging and inspiring me to take steps in the right direction. To live a life of flow and ease. To live a life of gratitude, humility, and passion.

I wish for everyone to be able to wake up and feel the joy and gift of being alive. One thing I wish to do in my wonderfully short and sweet life is to help as many people tap into their own love and passion. What makes you stoked to be alive? That’s a good starting place for contemplation. With that, we simply move and exist with full awareness in the present moment.

I want to say thank you to the present moment. Thank you for simply existing. Thank you for the somatic experience of being. I am deeply grateful to be here now. I am deeply grateful to exist, to be alive, to share love, and to feel peace.

Thank you, my friend, for being here and taking a moment with me.

Have a beautiful and blessed day,

Tyler

Each day to wake up, and participate in life, opening to what life must show me, and not what I must forcibly make happen.

Seeking a balance, between showing up as simply another beautiful day of practice and surrendering to how each moment unfolds. I am developing a faith and trust in life, that this unfolding process is perfect. It is perfect, but not always simple. And it is certainly not easy, but it is not supposed to be easy. There is curiosity and discovery. There are perceivable obstacles, “set-backs”, and moments of stumbling. This happens more than I would like to admit. Yet, these are opportunities and blessings, in disguise.

Simultaneously, we gain wisdom, which is encouraging. We learn, and we grow. We come into ourselves, our true selves. After repeatedly falling enough times, we slowly begin to realize that there are great lessons within. Life is showing us something beautiful. The people we meet, the books we read, the silent walks through the city and in the forest. This reflection and contemplation allow something precious to emerge.

We cultivate resiliency, adaptability, openness, and love. What happens when we surrender our agenda and allow the process of life to unfold. We can serve as a catalyst, spotting incredible opportunities, and a pure witness. Just noticing what is in each moment.

In this moment, I feel deep gratitude for all the teachers. I feel deep gratitude for the pure art of learning, and all those who share their learning. Education and creativity are beautiful blessings of this world. It is the greatest gift to see somebody exploring, pursuing, sharing their passion and work. As I move along in my own life, I only look forward to giving and sharing more. I find myself endlessly curious about what it is I will give and share. I am trying to keep my heart open, allowing possibilities to arise. I only wish to be a catalyst, for the potential, for the things that wish to be, that need to be.

I am fascinated by our own minds, and what we can discover through our inner world. Finding a balance between the external and the internal, bridging the gap. I am curious of what resides in those places we wish not to go, in other words, the shadow or the darkness. Simultaneously, I want to open my heart to light and allow light to fill the spaces within. The process is beautiful as I can feel the way in which we begin to change and come back home to ourselves. We are merely returning to that which we are, a being that is pure through and through.

Thank you for being here with me, and for sharing in this space of learning, growing, and becoming that which we are. Returning to the question, who am I, really?

These feelings arise, hang around for a moment, and fade away. They have a strong presence and pull, as much as I would like to turn away and not see them for what they are.

I am working with them, trying to make friends with that which feels uncomfortable, unfamiliar, and unknown. A big part of me wants these feelings to not be present, as they feel defeating, as though I am going in the “wrong direction,” whatever the right direction is anyways.

I am making peace with the process, taking it as it comes, that is, living life in flow, life with ease. All arises, and I let it go when its time passes.

I am grateful to be here. I am grateful to learn, to learn from this engaging and fascinating story. The mistakes and the lessons. The setbacks and leaps forward. There’s no telling, but the little wins are a special thing. We take what comes, as it comes, and let things go, when their time is up. That is life, the temporal nature of it.

I watch the unfolding and passing experience with an open and passionate heart. Ultimately, it all comes from the heart. It all comes from within, and we see that the moment we come home to ourselves. Coming home seems to happen in many ways. Silence, reflection, and contemplation are quite helpful. Slowing down amidst the busyness encourages space, and with this space, there is a greater sense of clarity.
This, in turn, allows for more intuitive and honest action. Action with integrity and love.

My goal is to simply show up with curiosity, openness, and love. It is the little moments, the moments that are easy to take for granted, that matter. All moments matter, especially when we participate and engage in the process, fully. Being fully engage is being fully alive.

I have a lot of gratitude to be here and have this ‘opportunity,’ though I don’t quite know how this story unfolds. But I will play my part, whatever that means. I will let go of what I think it should be, and let it be what it is. That is, a life in flow, ease, and balance. I trust that this unfolding process, the hardship, and blessings, are all meant to be as they are.

Thank you for being here, and being a friend,

Tyler

What changes can we make that will have a subtle or significant impact in the way we flow through life?

Personally, I’ve found that movement and breath are some of the most powerful tools we have to explore, which can help us discover more about who we really are, become aware of the consciousness that we are, and enliven us with strength, vitality, and power.

Movement can be freedom, as we start to pay close attention to this dance and play through space and time. What are we capable of with our beautiful bodies, the form, the artistic expression, the angles and curvature?

Movement is potential and possibility. My love for movement is manifested in a devotion to the worlds of Yoga and Jiu Jitsu. Otherwise, every other moment, also consists of an opportunity to pay attention to our flow and rhythm. The body is brilliant, as we learn how to listen. We can cultivate a greater capacity to pay attention.

What do we hold in our bodies? The fear, the emotions, the pain, the love, the curiosity, the body holds it all. We can learn to let go, flow freely, dance and dance into light.

I know that I know so little about Yoga but I’m so curious about it. I’m excited to learn all I can in this beautiful little life. Yoga is a way of life and ultimately, I want a lasting change in my perception.

I’ve been going deep into Ashtanga, Bikrom, and Baptise. These various styles contain so much power. Learning to breathe through the difficulty is empowering. Our breath is incredible, really. In the most difficult of moments, we can return to the sacred breath, and simply pay attention. Attention can be cultivated and practiced.

Jiu Jitsu and the world of grappling. The places our bodies can go, the submission, the flow, the dance, the strength, the exhaustion. Jiu Jitsu strikes the soul. An endless practice, always more depth, more to learn, more to see, and more to discover. We can move through the world without knowing something and all of the sudden, we awaken to and realize something we’ve been missing, overlooking, or ignorant of this whole time. The posture, the leverage, the weight distribution, the vulnerability, the breath, the endurance, it goes on and on.

There is so much to learn. It is epic. I’m stoked for this exploration.

I’m grateful to the teachers. I’m grateful to my professors, mentors, and guides.

Thank you.

How often can we come back to this sacred breath, a breath with carry with us in every waking and sleeping moment? The breath, it is so simple, yet so powerful. We are learning to work with this power, with this energy.

Find the energy within, cultivate this energy, let it grow and expand into something incredible. The possibilities are endless.

What does it mean to know our true selves? Repeatedly coming back to the question, who am I? Who am I? How deep are you willing to go? Are you willing to walk into this darkness? Are you willing to face these fears?

What will happen if we go there? Will we come back?

It’s the risk we take, but the risks must be worthwhile. What’s the alternative? Go for it. Go deep within, Climb this mountain. Flow like water.

Open the heart to love, cultivate compassion, feel the gratitude all throughout. Little by little, we take the steps, and walk the path. We must keep going.

Doing and being. Always doing, can we simply be? To be in this moment. Who are we when we let everything go? Are you willing? Let it all go and trust that all will be okay. It is time to wake up. It is time to wake up.

Come into this freedom. Remember who you really are. Remember this beautiful process. Patience. Compassion. Kindness. Gratitude. Can we hold these qualities in our hearts? Can we let our hearts expand, more and more fully?

Moving through this life with kindness, kindness in every moment. Think of everyone we love and hold dearly, move through the world with this love in our hearts.

Ask questions, be curious, and open the mind. Open the mind! Come back to the breath, come back to this present moment.

Feel into the sacred body, relax into this moment. This moment is all there is.

Gratitude for beautiful people, for the love in this world, for the love in my life. Gratitude for the little blessings in every moment. It is a priority bringing about a significant strength and sense of well-being. Feeling a deep sense of gratitude for this way.

When possible, we head to the mountains and the natural world and let ourselves go. Intrigued by strenuous activity, states of fear and the unknown, perhaps flirting with that edge of death. What is it like to look death in the eyes and celebrate?

If life is a miracle, that must make death just as much so. In this life, I wish to acknowledge and find a deep sense of peace with that approaching state. I don’t know what will happen but it is the now, this very moment, that is being experienced and realized.

Some books I’m touching down on include The Untethered Soul and The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer. I am repeatedly asking the question, Who Am I? as phrased by Nisargadatta Maharaj. I have many books on the radar and feel sincere appreciation for the opportunity to read these incredible books. It makes me very happy. Ideas and stories are sacred.

Writing and reflecting. Trying to be totally present, aware of each passing thought, as it all comes and it goes. Simply noticing, that’s it. Noticing what arises and falls away.

We continuously come back to breath. Breathwork, breath retention, Wim Hof Breathing, there are a variety of fascinating places to explore. Slowing way down to see the belly rise and fall. I want to see things as they truly are. Who am I, really? It’s such a beautiful question, perhaps the most important question of all.

Who am I? I am not my thoughts and my feelings. I see these states come and go so rapidly.

I will ask this question daily. I will continue to inquire with a smile on my face. Who am I? Life, life is crazy! To be, to simply be here now, it’s wild.

A shimmer of light in the sky for a brief moment to have burn away into eternity. Why are we afraid? Why do we have to know? What would it be like to let go, to fully let go?

To surrender, to give up control, to simply be and pay attention. Being alive and experiencing this world and all that it encompasses.

Who am I? It’s a big question. Who am I really? Looking past all the outer layers. Sure, perhaps those are a part of me but I want to go deeper and break through each layer. Who am I? Can this question be answered? Is it a futile endeavor?

I wonder if there is such a thing as liberation. I wonder if it is possible to truly surrender and let go. What would living be like if I could let go? Simply trust all that is and all that needs to be in this very moment.

It’s amazing how the waves of emotions come and go. Even more, it’s amazing how closely I find myself identifying with these passing emotions as though they are me, all of me. Those voices pass through nearly every moment of every day, creating some narrative of my waking experience. Why do I listen to this voice? Why do I trust this voice? Why do I think this voice is me?

That voice surely feels like me, the way it grips and holds me with power and force.

I’m learning to simply notice it as often as I can throughout my days, hoping that this practice of observation will bring a sense of peace. I wonder if I can find more peace in my life, not from external happenings but through this inner world and inner work.

What if I could just let it all go and just be? To simply be, how nice that seems to be. At least in my imagination it appears blissful.

Liberation from suffering.

Through breath, movement, writing, community, nature.

The source is the light. Everything else is piled on top, filling it in and clouding it out. Just to stand atop a precious and remote mountain alone gazing at the extensive landscape, snow capped peaks, wind blowing briskly, feeling this peace, letting this peace move through us, all the way.

The mountain knows the way. Let us be with the mountain. Let us be with the running waters. Let us be with expansive cosmos. Let us be this light and love.

The human way, the human experience, the heart needs to lead the way. The silence of the night. The darkness and the fear. Overwhelmed and then theirs nothing. Look around, go inside, go all the way. Don’t hold back, don’t hold back. Be true, your true self, dream, DREAM, live the dream.

An endless dance, a song always playing, tears filling the eye. Don’t you see? Don’t you remember? It’s time to go back home. Let us go home.

I am thinking about different worlds, different possibilities, and unique opportunities. I want to create something wonderful.

I’m thinking about the things that I love, the things that bring me tremendous joy and I ask myself how these things will come together, overlap, and become one. One-dimensional or multi-dimensional.

I’m trying to find a belief in myself. I am trying to find confidence. Can I have this faith to grow and become more? To become my true self. Who am I? Who am I, really? I wish to know.

It’s not supposed to be easy. All we can do is keep at it, keep going, and believe in what may be, a better world a better life. Or perhaps, life is already so good. We merely need to change our state of mind and our perception. It starts from within. Go inside. Look within, what do you see? What do you feel? What do you believe?

Be true to yourself. Be authentic. Be sincere. Be radically honest. Open your heart to the world. Trust the process.

One step forward, two steps back. We fall down and we get back up. It is beautiful. It is alive.

We have so much power within. We must cultivate this power. Go inside. Be with yourself, just be. Experience the world, simply. Take a deep breath and say thank you.

Let’s walk on.

We can. We can, there is always more to give.

Life is going to take an incredible amount of work. We must work hard every single day, every single day if we want to get to where we wish to be. We must name this place. Where do we want to be? Where do we wish to go? And let us make that happen, one step after another, one foot in front of the other. Here we go, knowing that this is an enormous mountain to climb. Believe that we can and absolutely will climb this mountain.

Sometimes we will hurt with a pain beyond belief, a pain that feels unrepairable. We can still find a way to get up and go forward. We must find a way, even if it means getting creative. We must find a way. We must find a deep-seated belief in our personal power and strength, and we will see that we are capable. After enough times of falling, getting back up, and walking forward, we begin to realize and know that we can. We must tell ourselves that we can. Have confidence in these words. Love yourself fully, acknowledging that you are beautiful and flawed. It is okay to hold these two things at the same time.

It’s going to be hard. It’s going to take work. Find the strength. Find personal power. Find what it is that you love to do and just get after it. Get wild, go on the adventure, be creative, create, and build! Build your dream. Build your dream. Don’t stop.

Remember as you flow along this precious river, to breathe. Breathe deeply, that sense of calmness and trust in this process. Breathe in more life. We are becoming more life with every step that we take and creating blessed opportunities.

Thank you for sharing this journey.

Reminiscing, this is what I needed to do at the time, out of some sort of protection. I’m not certain as to why this is how I needed to act, but this point of my life was filled with tremendous darkness. It feels like a miracle to consider that I did make it through this time. I did not know what was going to happen. When one feels hopeless, it’s hard to imagine any future at all.

There is one force I must name and give thanks to that I believe saved me and kept me going, that is, family and friends. Without loved ones being there and supporting me, even though I had nothing to give, I really cannot say what would have happened but the fire in me was certainly burning out.

My response to the darkness was total recklessness. I figured if I didn’t care much for living, I might as well push the edge in every way. That usually came with absolute carelessness in my decisions, often putting myself in highly risky environments. My go-to was skating, pounding the ground after one failed trick attempt after another. If I wasn’t on the board, I would be in the forest seeking high cliff faces or in the mountains exploring the alpine with thunderstorms or blizzards rolling in. I didn’t care, I found it exciting, and the adrenaline felt good. If I’m going to die, I said to myself, I might as well “live fully.”

What happens when we give up? We can certainly try and sometimes we will succeed, but that will be the end of this life. But sometimes, we won’t have that option. Sometimes, something will get in our way, something will prevent us from acting, from going forward with that choice, not that we’re even sure what we want. Then, we start to see, our minds take on an unfamiliar perspective, and we start realizing and feeling some beauty in the world. It may come on slowly and just be one small occurrence on one random day, but it will be there and will be just enough to get us to the next day.

Then we may take some small action. We may DECIDE to do something, something ever so tiny but it’s enough. It’s the first time in a long time that we are stepping in and taking control, being an agent of our lives. It is this choice that is defining and that makes all the difference. It’s the moment we decide and then again and the feeling of autonomy and freedom is felt, ever so slightly, the feeling that “I can do something.” I can create. I can build. I am alive and this is a miracle.

We may find the feeling of love. Feeling love for people, for life, for our calling. When the feeling of love takes over, our perception and approach to living and existence start to look radically different. It is no longer about us, alone, in isolation, but it is about us, together, shared moments, smiles, laughter, and tears of joy. When love is felt, it takes us to a different place, it is a different dimension of being human, of being alive. Love makes living worth it. It’s hard to describe why but it’s just this feeling of being seen and cared for while mutually caring for and seeing another, in the deepest way possible.

Love one hundred percent saved me and is giving me a reason to go forward. Love is the most powerful force and when all else may be falling apart in chaos, putting our attention towards this force will make it okay, whatever ends up happening ultimately. I am grateful to be alive and for this second chance to really experience with open eyes.

I write about this because I have experienced and continue to experience significant pain and darkness in my life and I have found, in movement, significant healing. My hope is that everyone will realize the power of movement in their own lives and make the effort to incorporate it in some form.

Movement can look different for everyone, but it is essential. We are beings in space with beautiful bodies that are capable of exploration, adventure, and discovery.

Movement is dance and play. There is a lightness of being but also an intensity in dance and play. There is spontaneity and surprises, flow and rhythm, a flow state.

An ongoing practice is to become more embodied in the movement. To be present and intentional with the step, with action, in the breath. The awareness of the breath reminds us of a general awareness of our state of being. The more moments of deep awareness, the better.

I have found healing in the mountains, Jiu Jitsu, farming, and wilderness. It is these four dimensions that I wish to continue exploring and sharing. For many reasons, I believe these spaces can be healing for people. I am trying to figure out how to share this with more people. I am starting to do so through my writing, and I hope people resonate.

I want people to feel alive and that can happen through movement. I would love to teach what I know while I continue to learn on this journey. It’s an exciting journey to share. It takes effort but the effort is worthwhile. It feels so good, and we need to sink into the initial uncomfortable feeling with a trust that it will get better as we get more familiar with and remember this deep and fundamental part of our being. I’m grateful we can share the epic journey.

We get to choose how we deal with it, how we move through it, and how we react to it. When there is resistance, we can let the resistance take us over and cause us to stop, or we can push onwards and continue to take steps. I say, taking the steps is the way to go.

We must keep going. We will fall but we must give life everything we have to get up and push on. Life will punch us left and right and we must endure. Early on, we will take the punches repeatedly. We will bruise. We will hurt. But don’t you realize how much strength we have inside of ourselves? Don’t you realize our potential? If not yet, know you are in it. You are creating. You are becoming.

This is the process. This is what we must discover. Reveal your potential. Feel your personal power growing. Let your heart expand as it wants to. It is energy, cultivate this beautiful energy inside of you.

So much strength. With courage, we go forward into the darkness. You may not see a thing and that is okay. Trust that it is going to be okay. Let go of the fear, and finally, we can be free. Finally, we can just let it all go, after clinging on for dear life. It’s okay to lose your mind, as we go into the heart. Step by step, we go forward, we explore, we discover, and the world opens and reveals herself. To be human, what a life, what a miracle, we are a part of it. The hurt, the pain, the sadness, and with gratitude love fills our hearts.

Let us give our thanks for love, as it is what carries us forward and allows us to feel hope and see the beauty of and in everything. Thank you!

Each of these experiences offers a unique perspective and helps me go deeper into my own sense of being in this world. I am attempting to understand who I really am.

There is so much noise to filter out to get to the heart of the story. There’s much happening all around us, all the time, so we must find a practice of concentration and focus, to keep our attention on what is most important.
