Dancing and Playing
The Power of Embodied Movement
Tremendous healing can be found in movement. I write about this because I have experienced and continue to experience significant pain and darkness in my life and I have found, in movement, significant healing. My hope is that everyone will realize the power of movement in their own lives and make the effort to incorporate it in some form.
Movement can look different for everyone, but it is essential. We are beings in space with beautiful bodies that are capable of exploration, adventure, and discovery.
Movement is dance and play. There is a lightness of being but also an intensity in dance and play. There is spontaneity and surprises, flow and rhythm, a flow state.
An ongoing practice is to become more embodied in the movement. To be present and intentional with the step, with action, in the breath. The awareness of the breath reminds us of a general awareness of our state of being. The more moments of deep awareness, the better.
I have found healing in the mountains, Jiu Jitsu, farming, and wilderness. It is these four dimensions that I wish to continue exploring and sharing. For many reasons, I believe these spaces can be healing for people. I am trying to figure out how to share this with more people. I am starting to do so through my writing, and I hope people resonate.
I want people to feel alive and that can happen through movement. I would love to teach what I know while I continue to learn on this journey. It’s an exciting journey to share. It takes effort but the effort is worthwhile. It feels so good, and we need to sink into the initial uncomfortable feeling with a trust that it will get better as we get more familiar with and remember this deep and fundamental part of our being. I’m grateful we can share the epic journey.
